Some Observations:
It was a
nice calm sunny day, a big contrast to the inclement weather experienced at the
Vosseler.
The creek
was deeper than usual? I was told that it was.
The Jones’s Film Crew got video footage so expect a big screen release at a cinema near you
In the women’s 6km race Sarah Drought (WHAC) once
again destroyed the field with the first 4 finishers well strung out. Melissa
Moon and sight impaired Maria Williams (Scottish) continue to tackle the more challenging
of races such as the Dorne
Daniel
Sinclair (Wanganui Collegiate) won the 4km race, showing why he will be one of
the favourites in his grade at next week’s Nat Sec Schools XC champs to be held
in Palmerston North.
In the kids
races there was plenty of competition and finishing strait war faces proved it.
I can’t help but notice in terms of numbers how dominant the Olympic and
Trentham United clubs are in these grades.
After his
win at the Vosseler and now the Dorne, Seamus Kane (Scottish) (like Sarah Drought) could
be headed for an XC trifecta this winter by grabbing the championship title at
Harcourt Park next month? Today he held
off a determined attempt by Harry Dixon and Andre Le Pine-Day (Palmy Army) to
steal the show. But maybe it was Luke Scott (Bib 1006 Palmy Army) who
stole the show for the Army on lap 2. I will let you decide
The Palmy
Army (actually Fielding Moa in disguise) came in force aiming for a la victoire
and for its efforts picked up the SM team’s race (they had 4 finishers in the
first 5 with the 6th runner home in 17th). If the teams race is determined
by the first six counters in each team (as per the Dorne Info sheet) then by my
count WHAC was 2nd with Scottish 3rd.
Michael
Wray (Scottish) embarked on a heroic attempt to start and finish a race in good order. Did
it work out Michael?
When it
comes to providing a running commentary nobody does it better than Rees Buck
Celebrities and running stars of yesteryear spotted in the bleachers included Wayne Atkins, Roger Price, Brian Cattermole, Steve Denholm, Dave Hatfield, and Tim Hodge (Hodgey says he plans to run at the Nat Road Relay)
