There was a big bunch of competitors in some of the field
events, notably the shot put and hammer. Such is the star pulling power of
Peter Jack.
We also saw the new electronic distance measuring device in action which
should hopefully speed up the measuring process and improve accuracy of the
results in the throws events.
The middle distance races over 800m and 3000m were also
popular especially with the high school age runners who will be aiming to do
well at the forthcoming National Secondary Schools T&F Champs in December.
In the 3000m.
I also understand that master’s athlete Brian Hayes may have
broken the centre record for his age group but I am not sure how official this result is.
The meeting overall was pretty relaxed and seemed to go well despite the windy conditions. The smooth running of the individual events is primarily due to the work of the officials both at the coalface and behind the scenes.
