This year
there were 18 Children’s Relay teams and 46 Open Relay teams. Based on last year’s results the numbers were 17
and 50 respectively.
The kids
did 4x1.6km laps and the open relay was comprised of 2x3km laps and 3x5km laps
Highlights
were the battle between the Olympic boy’s team and the Trentham United team
which Olympic won by the slim margin of 8 seconds.
The Kapiti girls’ team picked up the win in their
grade ahead of Olympic Harriers which claimed second. The chasing Trentham United team was
a mere 4 seconds behind.
So the kid's
rivalry between Olympic and Trentham continues
In the open
relay, the WHAC Senior Men’s A team cruised unchallenged to victory finishing roughly
8 minutes or so ahead of the Victoria Uni team which was second, as it was last
year.
It’s a pity
Scottish could not field more Senior Men’s teams as it did in 2022 when it won
The Senior Women’s
race was won decisively by WHAC from Scottish.
Most of the
Master's Men’s and Women’s grades were won by Scottish, except for the Men’s 60
grade which was won by WHAC.
The
Trentham Men’s Junior team retained its title from last year as did Olympic in
the Junior Women’s grade.
The only
drama of the day would have been the number of teams disqualified for using the
same runner more than once.
Plus the scintillating performance from Stewie McKenzie who turned out for a Hutt Valley Harriers composite team, his first race since the 1936 Olympics.
