2018 Scottish Waterfront 5k Race Wellington Tue 6 Feb

Results

Daniel Jones was motoring past me when he hit Point Jerningham. His time of 15.08 is pretty impressive given there was a stiff breeze around the bays which could have taken a few seconds off times. Not only is it a massive PB but according to Daryl the time is now the new course record for the Mac's Bar start.

The two fastest times on the old course are held by Olympians Julian Matthews and Hamish Carson both clocking around 14.44 or so.

Still Jones was a man with a mission and I only hope the crowds at Waitangi Park did not get in his way.

Chasing Jonesy was Rowan Hooper looking surprisingly fresh after his races up at Newtown Park over the weekend. Mr Hooper has done a grand job at rallying the Scottish troops over the summer and personally I think it is going to be an interesting winter.  His time of 15.44 is only a second or two off his PB and got him the silver. However, he was never going to catch the mountain man.

Back again for his second outing in this event was Joe Lynch who picked up 3rd place with a PB of 16.31.

In the women's grade Kate Sceats stole the show with a terrific 19.19 which is something else considering her young age (12). Anything below 20 is pretty good and it will be interesting to see if she can go better.

Also below 20 minutes and in 2nd place was Greta Woolloff who ran a PB of 19.21. Her previous best was 19.54 which she ran in October.

Hinano Andrews who has been competing in this event since 2011 ran 19.54 for 3rd which is another excellent sub-20 effort.

Yay!  Brendon Thompson is back but tonight he was on pram-pushing duties so the Critchlow/Thompson clash got suspended. Will on the other hand had a grand night of racing picking up a PB of 16.42 and running down Paul Barwick in the process.

But I have a message from Dan of Victoria University Harriers for you Will Critchlow and it is this.....
