2020 Shaw Baton Relays Battle Hill, Sat 25 Apr (Yeah Nah)

With no 2020 Shaw Baton Relay results or photos to show the next best thing is to dig into the archives and pull out the stuff from 10 years ago. There are about 2054 useable photos in the collection but since that is too many to post I have only put up about 422.  A lot of the people shown competing have well and truly gone west but there are some recognisable faces. The results are interesting to browse with the fastest lap time for the day going to US sub-4-minute miler Macklin Chaffee who was in the Scottish Men’s B team. You may also notice another Chaffee ran for WHAC and I believe this may have been a brother or cousin of the aforementioned Macklin. Somebody will know.

For those new to running in Wellington the Shaw Baton is a team relay over a 2.1km cross country course. There are 4 runners per team with 3 races (plus a kids scratch race) which caters to every age group. It has a hilly bit, some fences, horse jumps and a crowd favourite - a water obstacle which is where the paparazzi and unruly spectators hang out. The relay is the first interclub event of the season and because of that is well supported by the clubs and members. It is organised by Olympic Harriers and is held at Battle Hill Farm Park, Pauatahanui.
