Nick Horspool made short work of what appears to be his inaugural crack at this event. Posting 15.23 he easily held off Malcolm Hodge finished in 15.35, another first-timer who is not timid when it comes to having a go.
I wouldn’t like to guess who would have come out on top if these two had to engage in a sprint finish.
Ben Twyman has won this event many times but had to be content with third in 15.55.
The first female was youngster Madison Wos who again rounded the course below 20 minutes. The time today was 19.21, which looks like a personal best by 1 second.
Second, for the women was Janette Landers who did 21.07. It’s not her best time but the time progression over a series of races shows she is getting quicker.
Katie Jordan, who was the first female home a month ago, came in 3rd in 21.13.
Older brother Josh did not race today instead was tasked with walking the dog. But we can forgive the rest day since he was crowned the NZ National Secondary Schools junior road champion in Tauranga on Sunday. Not getting a break though was club/school mate Max Poland who got the silver medal behind Josh in the same Tauranga race.
Although I wouldn’t make a fine point of it there was a little bit of evidence that Xmas might not be that far away. Not always easy to detect, but the signs were there. Did anyone see anything that could give credence to this possibility?
