Tonight the teenagers ruled.
In the men’s grade the first runner home was Logan Slee
Logan is the current
Wellington Secondary Schools Senior Boys 3000m champion and he ran tonight's 5km in
15.59 ably assisted by pacer Dan Jones.
Logan’s time is a PB
and puts him in the sub 16.00 club. This is a fine effort given the blustery
northerly and a good workout prior to his April trip to Paris to represent NZ atthe World Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships. Good luck Logan.
In 2nd place was Finn Molloy who ran 16.42. Finn has been a busy boy over the last week racing
the Senior Boys 3000m and 1500m races for St Pat’s Silverstream at Thursdays
Wellington Secondary Schools T&F Champs on Thursday. In fact Finn and Logan raced each other in
those events at the park.
Will Critchlow ran
17.12 to grab bronze. Interestingly I
thought he was a no-show as I did not see him on the start-line.
So I was surprised to see him finishing like
a mirage out of the late afternoon sun.
Daryl, the keeper of the times and event controller
general, assured me he was just late, because for a second there I wondered if
he had done a Rosie Ruiz.
In the women’s grade Dorota Starzak was first with a time of
20.47. This is a PB for Dorata and her first win even though the results have
her as 2nd.
In 2nd place Greta Woolloff from Lower Hutt who
clocked 21.05. This is not Greta’s best time as she has previously broken 20
minutes twice and has a PB of 19.21. See what you can do next week Greta.
Third was Jessica McKenzie, Stu’s daughter, who was timed at
21.14 for her first waterfront race. Stu told me he is going to do the Vosseler Shield
race in May which for those that don’t know is a rugged cross country race on
Mt Victoria. Spikes or flats Stu?
Brendon Thompson came tonight for the first time in a while but
in the Critchlow/Thompson stakes Will has it all sown up.
