2018 Mixed Programme Inc Wellington Secondary Schools Regional T&F Champs Residual Events Newtown Park Sat 17 Mar

Results

This meeting incorporated College Sport Wellington  (CSW) events that could not be fitted into the Wellington Secondary Schools Regional T&F Champs held last Thursday plus some normal Newtown Park Saturday events to pad the day out. Performances from the school events get added to overall school points.

Also on the programme was the centre's 10,000m championship race with medals and all which I have reported on in a separate post.

First up was a 10,000m walk for which there do not appear to be any obvious results. Which is a pity because the French lady who slaughtered the field and gave a masterclass in distance walking. I doubt that even Daniel Du Toit could keep up, if he were there.

The CSW events had tiny fields, especially the Senior Boys 2000m Steeplechase which only had Andrew Ledger competing representing HIBS. Ledger is normally an 800m runner and it was clear that he had little practice at navigating jumps, but he did it and won.

The Intermediate and Junior Boys 2000m steeplechase was won by Finn and Jonah Seeds respectively to keep it in the family and of course HIBS.

Young Katelyn Sceats won the Junior Girls grade for Chilton and got horribly wet in the process. You might remember Katelyn from the sizzling run she did at the Waterfront 5km race earlier this year.

Meanwhile over at the West end throwers circle Sean Howe picked up his third Senior Boys schools throwing title for Wellington College by getting the hammer out to 42.39m. Kaleb Sola from HVHS was second with a throw of 38.85m and all with "throws super coach" Shaka Sola watching. Nobody can better Shaka's ringside commentary and he would be better inside the fence giving us the lowdown on each competitor.

In the women's hammer Montaya  Wharehinga threw and impressive 50.12m to win the overall competition. The CSW title though went to Jameelah Tchankwe from Wellington East with a throw of 35.49. Second was Antonia Jaimeson representing St Oran's with a throw of 27.49.

I won't mention where Peter Jack put the hammer.
